Harmonia's
world is Twilight (TW). Its axis of spin is 0 degrees and its rotation is locked to its revolution around its sun, so that the same half of the planet always faces towards the sun, and the other half faces away. There is no day or night, only an eternal twilight on the equator, which is the only habitable portion of the planet. Gravity 0.7 ms-2, Wind 0.2 Y, Repulsion 0.1. Cliffs fall to the north of Harmonia, blocking the cold, and the land slopes down to an inland sea. All the plants grow facing the sun.
It is illegal
to shed blood in Harmonia. It is illegal to eat meat. It is illegal to commit
any act of violence, even in self-defence. The Harmonians keep animals for milk
only. They are tall, slim, healthy. Their skin is black. They speak a latin dialect
with heavy accent (african). All their buildings are air-tight for the hot and
cold storms. Reading and writing are forbidden except for the king and his heir
and the cleric.

Worlds:

10 executives

100
representatives per executive
100 informers

Harmonia:
10,000 people
100 informers
1
representative (Dramaticulan)
Harmonia must
pay $100k per year per tweny people, or $50M a year to Olympia to avoid keeping
500 soldiers for the gods. That’s $5000 per person per year. The king is in
charge of the accounts, but Dramaticulan checks them. They export the local
wood. It grows in the valley despite the hot and cold storms. The wood is a
product of the former-celesti, and is therefore of no nutritional value to
terran species. It is so hard that it can sometimes substitute for metal. They
make wind-chimes out of it, and the Olympian summoning agencies use it to make
ironwood armor. But there are larger sources of the same wood on Twilight, and
the wood can also be grown on other planets, to which it has been transplanted.
Export grain and their special shade from mountains. The shale has a
multicolored sheen.
Lottery in
Pakesh, sixteenth year, winner gets to come with his family to spend a month in
Harmonia staying at the king’s palace and attending the festival. A conjunction
nearby Pakesh will take them home. There are 1000 tickets $1000 each. This
brings in $1M towards the $50M target.
Money is
tight. Gods like the place, but it is heavily in debt: $100 M and rising $10 M
a year with full demand for stone, wood, and the lottery.
The god Thor
obtained the country from another god for next to nothing. But he had to
promise to try and keep Harmonia as it is. But it is costing him a fortune. He
has to provide the 500 soldiers. At this point, with the country $100M in debt,
he will turn a blind eye to a murder, a rebellion, and the birth of violence to
get him out of this money-losing culture without the censure of her peers.
The Harmonians
are unaware of the change in their gods. They call their god Vesuvius, and
refer to Vesuvius as a woman.
Quadrafillian
persuades Tobiallino that Drappallianan will be allowed back from exile if
Cardialissimo becomes king. Tobiallino, who is an idiot, agrees to kill
Melifluoso, whome he has always hated for his own idiot’s reasons. He waits
until the lottery winners are staying. Uses a knife from one of their rooms, up
in the balconies where the winners are first to find the body one night. Thus
incriminated: weapon, present at the scene, and capable.
Melifluoso
used his slight-of-hand to fix the lottery to get party here because he feels
unsafe. Fears his brother. He should be fearing his half-mother.
Cardialissimo
is secretly martial. Has equerries with whom he wrestles and boxes. But has no
intention of killing his brother, nor would he look upon such a murder with
anything but horror. He will be the most fervant persuer of the apparent
killers.
Melifluoso: ‘I
am king with no bodyguard, I fear sometimes for my life, I feel safe with you.’
He’s read
about them, he has access to the forbidden, such as writing and literature and
magazines from pakesh.
There is only
one severe punishment in Harmonia: exile by the East Gate. The enforcer of law
is a demigod in the form of a large barn-owl who has the power to cast
enveloping sponge. Enough to get the offender off to the exile gate. This will
fail with the party, so Thor sends, on this pretext, twenty knights to enforce
the judgment of the people against them in the murder. In doing so, he hopes he
will destroy the Harmonian culture, and be able to transform the place into a
money-earner.
The Knights:
Heavy
warhorses guzzeling grain
All black like
the harmonians
Men who want
to eat meat, so kill animals
A team that
has fought in many engagements together for Vesuvius, but fallen into disfavor
for pillaging a friendly town over a slight to one of their members. Ideal
material for this job.
Local woman
swoon
Captain
Kandogamantis
His orders are
to take the murderers captive and exile them.
Thor is
ignorant of the nature of the party unless informers let her know of the party
showing their prowess.
To come to
Harmonia, party must swear not to spill any blood in anger, no exceptions and
no clauses, not even for self-defence.
Kandogamantis
has no respect whatsoever for pacifists. He expects his men not to kill any
locals, nor rape women, but that’s it. He takes over the palace if he sees it’s
possible.
Because the
party is gating into Harmonia, they have no summoning bridges.
