Date: Sat, 05 Aug 2006 15:53:21 -0400 From: Kevan Hashemi To: Julian Hjortshoj Subject: Wizard Captain Dear Julian, I hope your ride went well. I'm going to have Chris and Kirsten play Duke Plantinak together, trying to emmulate John Byers's interpretation, and adhering to the Duke's agenda, despite endangering his passangers. You will play the captain Amahte of The Shark. He is an eighth-level wizard trained in the Vatzit University, Gripp. He is Satian-born, and speaks Latin, Weilandic, as well as Satian. He uses an island in the River Thebes Delta as his base, where he is tolerated by the Satian navy because he never attacks Satian Ships, and he bribes the Admiral of the Satian Navy with slave girls he brings back from his travels around Clarus by sea. At the moment, Amahte has with him a woman he kidnapped two years ago, when she was sixteen, during a stop at Pirate Town in the Diablo Islands. Despite the forced beginning of their relationship, he loves her, and she loves him too. But they don't admit it to one another. I tell you this because her presense on the boat will complicate things for Amahte in the event of a defeat. STR 0 TOU 4 DEX 2 INT 11 fighter level 4 wizard level 8 sailer level 16 Amahte's crew is 100 figher-sailors (pirates). Most are veterans of his previous excursions into the oceans of Clarus. They have, on average, 4 dp and 15 hp. The ship is a three-masted cutter. It is designed for speed, not ramming. It has plenty of ropes and grapnels. Its main closing weapon is Amahte's spells. Amahte has Possess working continuously upon an albatross. You can use the albatross during the game to spy upon the other ship. http://alignment.hep.brandeis.edu/Hashemi/SAGA/Rules/Magic.html#Possess That uses up one of his fourth-level spell slots. He has Beguile in a first-level spell slot. I'll let you choose the rest. Although he has his fortune in a few safe banks, his Clarus ocean charts, showing ways to navigate across oceans without running into kraken, are of invaluable to him. The gods put a bounty on such maps. Amahte occasionaly pirates in the Satian sea, but mostly outside. He has aggravated the Duke of Plantinak by refusing to pay duty on his imports into the Satian Sea, even though those duties are minor. (5% of value). The reason he does this is because he carries contraband and smuggled goods all the time, and slaves. When Amahte pirates in the open ocean, he kills prisoners freely and captures boats. He brings the boats back to the Satian Sea, and these boats, travelling with The Shark, are among the contraband that he brings past the coast of Plantinak. So, I hope that's enough to go on. Read the last few paragraphs of the diary to bring yourself up to date. http://alignment.hep.brandeis.edu/Hashemi/SAGA/HSW/HSW_9.html Yours, Kevan
